Taylor Men’s Soccer Falls to Brescia in Season OpenerĀ

Ā

UPLAND, Ind. – On Saturday afternoon, the TU men’s soccer team recorded 15 shots, 10 of which were on goal, but were held off the scoreboard, falling 2-0 to Brescia in their season opener at Turner Stadium.

Taylor (0-1-0) controlled the pace of the contest for most of the opening period, collecting seven shots and creating several high quality scoring chances in the first 33 minutes of play. However, a Brescia goal off a penalty kick with 11:42 remaining in the first half turned the tide, and the Trojans were unable to recover.

Armed with the lead, Brescia (1-0-0) controlled possession and applied more pressure on Taylor’s side of the pitch in the second half, firing off 11 shots. An insurance tally in the 83rd minute helped to seal the deal, handing Taylor their first loss of the 2020 campaign.

Luke Holwerda and Quinn Partain co-led the Trojans with three shots apiece, while Noah Rodman and Paul McBride each finished with two. James McBride had Taylor’s best chance of the day halfway through the second half, but his shot sailed just wide.

Joaquin Hansen stood tall in net, collecting five saves for the Trojans.

Taylor will begin Crossroads League play against Huntington (0-0-0) on Wednesday, September 16. The match is set to begin at 7:00 pm.
