Early Goals Propel Trojans Rout

UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor (1-2-0) scored early and often on its way to its first victory of the year on Saturday against Judson (0-1-1).

The Trojans started fast, scoring the opening goal in the first minute of the game. Andrew Siegelin was quickest to react to a defensive error by Judson, and promptly took the ball and slotted it into the far corner for the first goal of the season for Taylor.

Using the energy and emotion from an early goal, TU continued to play aggressive and were rewarded in the seventh minute. Jhon Alzate sent in a cross from a corner kick that found Brian Matipa near the back post, who used one touch to control the ball, before firing home a curler to double the lead.

The Trojans were not finished in the first half though. After a poor clearance from a cross by Collin Maris, Pablo Gonzalez latched onto a volley that sent the ball into the net to increase the lead further to 3-0 in the 36th minute.

Taylor went into the half with a 3-0 lead, capitalizing on every shot in a way Judson could not replicate.

After the break Taylor continued to play great, scoring in the 56th minute to go up 4-0. The Trojans took control of the ball and Matt Harrold went on a marauding run down the middle, and found Moses Kabuswe with an inch-perfect through ball that Kabuswe promptly fired into the net, over the oncoming goalie, for his first goal in a Trojan uniform.

Judson continued to shoot and eventually found the back of the net in the 83rd minute off a screamer from 35 yards out to make the score 4-1.

The Trojan defense contained the Eagles well throughout the match, while Judson fired off 22 shots, only eight were on goal, with Sam Spiegel saving seven of those to match his season best in saves.

Taylor will be back in action Wednesday, August 31, against Trinity Christian (0-1-0) inside Turner Stadium at 7:00 pm.
