Taylor Women’s Soccer Opens League Play With Rout

Huntington, Ind. – Playing in their first Crossroads League contest of the season, the Taylor women’s soccer team put together another stout performance on Wednesday evening, finding the back of the net early and often in a 6-1 triumph over the Huntington Foresters.

After recording 31 shots in their season opener, the Trojans (2-0-0, 1-0-0 CL) collected another 26 against the Foresters, 19 of which were on frame. While their offensive production was stellar, Taylor’s defensive play was equally as impressive as they allowed just four total shots.

Linli Tu, Morgan Orme, and Erin Teevans all shined against Huntington. Tu recorded two goals and an assist, Orme also scored twice, and Teevans finished the contest with a goal and an assist. Freshman Caroline Monberg also collected her first collegiate goal in TU’s victory.

Tu and Orme co-lead the Trojans with three goals apiece, while Teevans leads the team in assists with two after Taylor’s first two matches.

Orme opened the scoring in the sixth minute, but Huntington (0-1-0, 0-1-0 CL) was able to draw even with Taylor just eight seconds later. The contest remained deadlocked at 1-1 for most of the first half until Monberg’s tally late in the stanza gave the Trojans a lead they would not relinquish.

TU broke the game open after halftime, scoring four goals in the final 45 minutes to secure their second victory of the season. Hannah Brackenbury recorded her second win in net for the Trojans, making one save on two shots.

After two straight road games, the Trojans will be back at Turner Stadium for their home opener on Saturday afternoon against the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars (1-0-1, 0-0-1 CL). Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
