Three Advance to Finals in Second Day of Competition at Track and Field Nationals

GULF SHORES, Ala.—A pair of Southeastern University freshman athletes and a women’s relay team earned spots in championship races during the second day of competition at the NAIA Track and Field National Championships.
Darion Carter advanced to the Men’s 110 Meter Hurdles final, running a 14.41, placing third in his heat and grabbing the final qualifying spot. Teammate Davonte Vanterpool ran a 14.42 with the ninth best time in the prelims. A total of three Sun Conference runners will participate in the 110 Meter Hurdles final.
Trey Alford was 10th overall in the prelims in the 100 Meter Dash, finishing fourth in his heat in a time of 10.57.
In the field events, Kyle Manuel placed 23rd in the discus, recording a toss of 45.6 Meters on his final attempt. Manuel will compete in the shot put tomorrow.
On the women’s side, Julia Rohm will race in the 5,000 Meter final on Saturday, earning the final qualifying spot with a time of 18:18.80, just edging out conference foe Jessy Scarpone.
Also racing in a final tomorrow is the Women’s 4×400 Meter Relay team of Namiah Simpson, Miyah Ford, Ashley Higgs, and Courtney Gales, recording the third-best time in the prelims at 3:47.07.
Courtney Gales just missed out on a trip to the 400 Meter final, running a time of 56.53, placing third in her heat.
Also competing on Saturday is Darin Garland in the Men’s Triple Jump, and Simpson in the Women’s 400 Meter Hurdles.
