Titans defeat Valley City State 10-5 in day two of spring trip

AUBURNDALE, Fla.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (8-7, 0-0 CCAC) defeated the Valley City State University Vikings (7-9) by a final score of 10-5 to continue their spring trip.
The Titans were able to out last Valley City State 10-5 in a back-and-forth thriller.

Freshmen pitcher Alec Bixler would get the start on the mound, going 1-2-3 in the first.

The Titans offense would get going in the 2nd inning off a single from Gabe Cortez, a Josiah Nelson walk and an RBI single to right field by Braedon Leathed. Nelson would later come around to score on a throwing error.

Valley City would respond in the bottom half of the inning, plating 2 runs on 2 hits. Freshmen pitcher Andrew Parker would come in and keep the game tied 2-2 until Valley City State’s offense would tack on 3 more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning.

The Titans would respond quickly, after two quick outs the Titans would bring home 4 runs in the top of the 7th inning, on a Quinn Meier RBI double to left, and three singles from Gabe Cortez, Josiah Nelson, and Devin Smith.

The Titans would add another 2 runs in the top of the 8th inning again with 2 outs coming on a passed ball and a Gabe Cortez RBI single.

In the top of the 9th inning, the Titans would score another run on a hit by pitch, a single by Braedon Leathed, and a single by Devin Smith.

Junior pitcher Jack Kienzle would shut the door on the Vikings in the bottom of the inning, earning the Titans a 10-5 victory.

The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Thursday, March 7th, when they take on Aquinas College in a doubleheader starting at 3:15 PM ET.
