Trojans Lose on the Road as Shots Run Dry
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – On Saturday afternoon, the Taylor University women’s basketball team lost to Aquinas (9-7) on the road by a score of 65-50, the lowest point total for the Trojans thus far in the 2021-2022 season.
Shooting efficiency was the decisive factor in the game, as Taylor shot just 28.3 percent from the floor and 29.0 percent from deep while the Saints countered with a 50.0-percent clip from two and a 58.3-percent mark from three.
The first half was especially troublesome for the Trojans, a period of time in which they scored just 19 points in 20 minutes of play. Taylor made a mere seven of its 33 shots taken before half, meanwhile Aquinas knocked in nine three-point shots alone.
Taylor was able to find a bit of rhythm in the second half, outscoring the Saints 31-26, but the second-half rhythm was not enough to undo the disharmonious effects of the first as the final score read 65-50 in favor of the Saints.
Senior, Kayla Kirtley, was the lone Trojan to reach double-digits, leading the team with 12 points on 5-7 shooting.
Taylor (6-8, 1-3 CL) will be back in action for the third of its three-game non-league stretch of play, when the Trojans take on Lourdes (3-8) on Thursday, December 16th, inside Odle Arena at 5:00 pm.
