TU Defeats Goshen to Advance in CL Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS – Taylor eased past Goshen (19-33-1) on Wednesday evening to advance to the second round of the Crossroads League Tournament. The Trojans won handily over the Maple Leafs, 8-3.

After giving up three runs in the second inning, the Trojans answered back putting up five runs in the bottom of the third inning. TU scored its final three runs in the bottom of the sixth to win 8-3.

Taylor Wilson led the Trojan squad with two hits. TU scored its eight runs on six hits. Hannah Castor, Erin Cozad and Wilson totaled two runs brought in each. Courtney Moriarty and Castor tallied two runs for Taylor. Kristin Mihalic, Cassy Lewis, Kayla Britt and Wilson all finished the game scoring one run for the Trojans.

Darby Shaw (6-0) picked up the win, pitching six innings for the Purple and Gold, entering in relief. Shaw allowed zero runs on three hits, while pitching for seven strikeouts.

The first round of the CL Tournament was the fifth time this season that Goshen and Taylor have met. Taylor has been victorious all five times against the Maple Leafs.

RV Taylor (34-15) will continue its CL Tournament run Thursday against, No. 13 in the country and No. 2 seed, Indiana Wesleyan (42-12-1). The Wildcats won three out of the four regular season meetings with the Trojans. TU and IWU will play on Thursday at Marian, with first pitch at 5:00 pm.
