U.S. Falls in Game Two of Collegiate and Under-18 Select Series
Final games of three-game series set for Saturday (Aug. 15)

RICHMOND, B.C. – The U.S. Collegiate Women’s Select Team fell 2-1 in the shootout, while the U.S. Under-18 Women’s Select Team fell 5-1 on the second day of competition in the Select Series against Canada at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
The final games of the three-game series are set for Saturday (Aug. 15) with the U.S. Under-18 Women’s Select Team taking the ice at 3:30 p.m. PT and the U.S. Collegiate Women’s Select Team slated to play at 7 p.m. PT. Games are available to be streamed live on HNLive.ca.
U.S. COLLEGIATE WOMEN’S SELECT TEAM 1, TEAM CANADA 2 (SO)
Canada struck first less than two minutes into the first, when Abby Stonehouse corralled a neutral-zone turnover picking the top corner on a 2-on-1 opportunity just 1:49 into the game.
Team USA then received back-to-back power plays, but despite a number of good chances, couldn’t find the back of the net. The teams entered the first intermission knotted at 11-11 for shots on goal.
The second continued much as the series has, with strong defensive performances and timely saves from each team’s netminder. The U.S. put a bit more pressure in the offensive zone, outshooting Canada, 15-9, in the middle frame, but Eve Gascon kept the score 1-0 heading into the third.
On a power play opportunity early in the third, Ava Thomas (Downington, Pa./Boston College) rifled a shot from the slot that slid just wide of the net. The U.S. kept the pressure up and with 11 minutes remaining in the game, Molly Boyle (Scituate, Mass./Yale University) won a faceoff cleanly, sending a back-door pass to Rose Dwyer (Wynnewood, Pa./Cornell University), but Gascon made a sliding save to keep Team USA scoreless.
Ava Lindsay (Minnetonka, Minn./University of Minnesota) knotted the game at 1-1 with 8:36 left in the third, when a sharp-angle shot fluttered past the goaltender. Neither team could put another one past, so after a scoreless 3-on-3 overtime period, the teams advanced to a shootout.
Canada’s Chloe Primerano and Caitlin Kraemer scored in the shootout to ultimately give Canada the 2-1 victory.
Uma Corniea (Edina, Minn./Princeton University) made 33 saves in net. The U.S. outshot Canada, 38-34. Team USA was 0-4 on the power play and 2-0 on the penalty kill.
U.S. UNDER-18 WOMEN’S SELECT TEAM 1, TEAM CANADA 5
Canada opened the game’s scoring on a power play just under the halfway mark of the first period. Adrianna Milani found Megan Mossey who cashed in on the top corner, taking a 1-0 lead. Milani added Canada’s second of the game, 12 seconds into a power play, with 2:59 remaining in the first, taking a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
Canada scored its third power-play goal of the game just under six minutes into the second when Mossey put a carbon copy of her first goal in from short range to open a 3-0 lead. Canada capitalized on its fourth power play of the game, this time from Madison Levesque taking a 4-0 lead into the final frame.
Team USA got on the board with 3:34 remaining in the game when Aubryn Monter (North Ridgeville, Ohio) stuffed a loose puck in on the doorstep to cut the lead to 4-1. Canada added a fifth with less than a minute remaining to push the final tally to 5-1.
Allie Callinan (Wayzata, Minn.) made 23 saves in net. Canada outshot the U.S., 28-24. Team USA was 0-4 on the power play and 1-5 on the penalty kill.
