LAKELAND, Fla.—Despite holding a late lead in the first two sets, the Fire volleyball team was unable to come away with a set in a 3-0 loss to Warner Wednesday night.

The Fire held a 22-17 lead in the first set, but committed six attacking errors and a service error to yield the set to Warner (10-11, 6-4 TSC) 28-26.

During the opening set, the Fire recorded 14 kills, but committed 12 errors on the attack.

In the second set, SEU (17-3, 9-2 TSC) led by as many as seven, and was up 20-14. Once again, the Royals were able to mount a late run, getting seven kills, and two blocks to take the set 26-24.

Trailing by five in the final set, the Fire got as close as three (23-20), but kills from Marissa Intoppa and Becca Bowlin sandwiched Taylor Gregory’s ninth kill of the night to give the Royals a 25-21 win. The third set was SEU’s most efficient attacking (.175), but the Royals had 20 kills in the final set.

Avery Bradshaw led the way for Southeastern with 10 of the team’s 37 kills. The senior added 20 digs, and was in on two blocks.

Keniah Rivera Santiago added 17 digs, and joined Bradshaw in double figures along with Sarah Castillo (15), Courtney Krause (12), and Hannah Kaszubowski (11).

Castillo added a team-best 18 assists.

The Fire return to action a week from Wednesday, hosting Webber International at 7 p.m.
