2024-25 Women’s Basketball All-Conference Honors Released

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) has announced its 2024-25 Women’s Basketball awards. All-Conference teams are selected by a vote of conference head coaches. First and Second Teams consist of 10 members each, plus ties. The All-Freshman and All-Defensive Teams each consist of five players, plus ties. Individual awards include Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Champion of Character Coach.

Player of the Year: Taylor Covington, Indiana Tech

Taylor Covington excelled for Indiana Tech in 2024-25. The junior guard averaged 17.7 points, 4.1 assists, and 4 rebounds per game in conference play. Covington recorded 81 assists, 31 steals, 6 blocked shots, and 79 rebounds during the 20-game WHAC regular season, contributing to Indiana Tech’s 19-1 conference record and fourth consecutive WHAC regular season title. This is Covington’s first Player of the Year award and third First Team selection. The Dublin, Ohio native was the conference Newcomer of the Year in 2022-23.

Defensive Player of the Year: Genevieve Decker, Indiana Tech

Genevieve Decker was a key contributor to Indiana Tech’s championship team. The senior forward tallied 24 blocks, 15 steals, and 100 defensive rebounds during the 20-game WHAC regular season. Decker anchored the conference’s top defense, which allowed just 52.9 points per game, three points fewer than the next best defense. WHAC teams shot 33.5% against the Warriors’ defense. Decker earned her first First Team All-WHAC honor after being named to the Second Team in 2022-23 and 2023-24.

Newcomer of the Year: Jayci Allen, University of Northwestern Ohio

Jayci Allen made an immediate impact in her first season with the Racers. The junior excelled on both ends of the court, helping UNOH achieve a program record of 19 single season wins. Allen ranked eighth in the conference in points per game (13.9) and second in rebounds (9.3). The Richmond, Ind. native recorded eight double-doubles and added 24 steals, 8 blocks, and 49 assists during the 20-game regular season. Allen was also named First Team All-Conference.

Coach of the Year: Jessie Biggs, Indiana Tech

For the fourth consecutive year, Indiana Tech Head Coach Jessie Biggs has been named WHAC Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year. Biggs led the Warriors to a 19-1 regular season record and a fourth straight WHAC regular season title. The Warriors finished the regular season on a 16-game winning streak and earned a berth in the NAIA National Championship. During the four-year championship run, Indiana Tech has a 79-4 record in WHAC regular season games.

Champion of Character Coach: Kevin Mondro, Cleary

For the second consecutive season, WHAC head coaches selected Cleary Head Coach Kevin Mondro as the Champion of Character Coach. Mondro, Cleary’s inaugural head coach since 2022, is recognized for exemplifying the NAIA’s five core values: integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.

In addition to the All-Conference awards, the WHAC also announced its All-Academic and Champions of Character teams. The All-Academic Team consists of sophomores or above with a cumulative 3.25 GPA who have been at their school for one full year. The Champions of Character Team comprises one player from each school who best represents the five core character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
