Wilson just misses standard for Olympic trials

Huntington, Ind. – Huntington University sophomore Emma Wilson continues to rewrite the history books. This past weekend the University of Illinois transfer clocked in at 32:38 in the Five and Dime Women’s Tokyo 10,000, a USATF-sanctioned meet for Tokyo Olympic hopefuls held at Columbia International University (S.C.).

Wilson’s time was 13 seconds off the automatic qualifying standard for the Olympic trials.

HU coach Joel Childs, who’s hopeful she’ll get a call back for the trials, is excited for what’s to come for Wilson. “It was a great experience, and I’m just thankful to be a part of it.

“It’s been amazing to watch Emma grow into the runner she is now, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.”

Wilson was paced by teammates Adrien Gentie and Elijah Chesterman. It was the first 10K for all three and the results didn’t disappoint. Not only did she post the top current women’s collegiate 10K time in the country, she also set a new school record and unofficially broke the NAIA record by 1 minutes 44 seconds.

Wilson also earned the fourth spot on Indiana’s all-time list of female 10K times.

“It was a great experience to run my first 10K and have Adrien and Elijah there to help me out,” said Wilson.

Wilson and her HU crew now turn their attention to indoor track season. Next up for the Foresters is the Trine University Invitational on January 30.
