Badgers to play UCLA in home-and-home series

Teams will square off at the Rose Bowl in 2029 and Camp Randall in 2030

MADISON, Wis. – Many a successful Wisconsin football season has ended in a trip to the Rose Bowl. In 2029, the Badgers are guaranteed to visit Pasadena, albeit in September as opposed to January.

Wisconsin and UCLA have announced a two-game, home-and-home series that will see the two teams play at the Rose Bowl on Sept. 15, 2029 and at Camp Randall Stadium on Sept. 7, 2030.

“UCLA is one of the premier programs in college football,” UW Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez said. “We had some memorable bowl games when I was on the sidelines but this is a great opportunity for us to play them at Camp Randall. Non-conference scheduling is always a challenge but the folks at UCLA have been great to deal with and we look forward to the series.”

The Badgers have played UCLA 11 times previously with the Bruins holding a 7-4 advantage in the series. UW has won the last three meetings, however; each a bowl game with Alvarez on the sidelines. Wisconsin won the 1994 Rose Bowl, 21-16, the 1999 Rose Bowl, 38-31, and the 2000 Sun Bowl, 21-20.

The two teams have played five games at Camp Randall Stadium with UCLA winning all five. The last regular-season meeting between the two teams came on Sept. 18, 1982, with the 14th-ranked Bruins winning, 51-26, in Madison.

In addition to the series with UCLA, Wisconsin has already announced upcoming home-and-home series with Syracuse (2020 and 2021), Washington State (2022 and 2023), Hawaii (2022 and 2024) and Virginia Tech (2024 and 2025).

Other additions to UW’s home schedule include Kent State in 2019 (Oct. 5), Southern Illinois in 2020 (Sept. 19), Army in 2021 (Oct. 16), Buffalo in 2023 (Sept. 2), and North Texas in 2025 (Sept. 6).
