INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — After Friday’s games were postponed due to weather, the Bethel Pilots (10-28, 5-23) split with the Marian Knights (21-18, 16-12) with the Crossroads League season beginning to wind down for the Pilots.
GAME 1
Freshman Jesse Stout went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the Pilots 12-1 loss and accounted for two of the seven hits recorded by the Pilots.
Bethel went three pitchers deep in Riley Thomas’ 11th appearance and third decision of the season; Thomas was given the loss for the third time this season. Thomas allowed eight runs, five hits, four walks, and two strikeouts in 49 pitches thrown. He was relieved by Lucas Nowacki in the second and threw three innings, allowing four hits and four runs, and Tim Dillehay closed the game, only allowing one hit in 1.1 innings pitched.
GAME 2
Jacob Sitterly lit up the sky to start the nightcap with a solo home run down the left field line, putting the Pilots on the board 1-0 in the top of the second. Marian answered in the bottom of the frame with a two-RBI double to center field, and the Knights took the lead 2-1, then tacked one more with another RBI double to left field this time.
In the next half inning, Bethel put up five runs with Jesse Stout’s two-RBI single up the middle, followed by Dominic Deisler’s RBI single to left 4-3 Pilots. Ta’Shaun Coleman drew a walk to score the fifth Pilot run, and Elijah Gaines singled through the right side to score Thomas Dolan to take a win and avoid the series sweep from the Marian Knights 6-3.
Ty Mickiewicz (2-4) threw a seven-inning complete game with eight hits, three runs, one walk, and a punch out, all in 93 pitches.
