Big Ten Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week

Following Big Ten football games on Nov. 20-21, the Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week and Freshman of the Week in the Big Ten were announced this morning. Below are this week’s honorees:

Offensive Player of the Week
Ty Fryfogle, Indiana
Sr., WR, Lucedale, Miss./George County

  • Hauled in seven passes for 218 yards and three touchdowns against Ohio State to become the first receiver in Big Ten history to record back-to-back 200-yard games
  • His 218 yards were the third-highest total ever by a Buckeyes’ opponent and the most by a Hoosier in the history of the series, which dates back to 1901
  • Scored from 63, 56 and 33 yards out to became the first Hoosier since James Hardy in 2007 to record a pair of 50-yard touchdowns in a single game
  • Has 25 catches for 560 yards and six touchdowns over the last three weeks
  • Collects his second career Offensive Player of the Week award and second in as many weeks
  • Last Indiana Offensive Player of the Week: Ty Fryfogle (Nov. 16, 2020)

Defensive Player of the Week
Blake Gallagher, Northwestern
Sr., LB, Raynham, Mass./Saint Sebastian’s

  • Recorded a team-high 14 tackles in a victory against Wisconsin, his second 14-tackle effort in the last three weeks
  • Added a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the contest
  • Anchored a defense that held the Badgers to seven points and zero snaps in the red zone, while turning the Badgers over five times
  • Claims his first career Defensive Player of the Week honor
  • Last Northwestern Defensive Player of the Week: Chris Bergin (Nov. 9, 2020)

Special Teams Player of the Week
Giles Jackson, Michigan
So., WR, Antioch, Calif./Freedom

  • Returned four kickoffs for 159 yards, including a 95-yard touchdown to open the second half in a victory at Rutgers
  • His 95-yard return is tied for seventh-longest in program history and gives him two of the seven longest return touchdowns in school history, joining his 97-yard touchdown in 2019
  • Added four catches for 50 yards on offense
  • Earns his second career Special Teams Player of the Week honor and first of the season
  • Last Michigan Special Teams Player of the Week: Giles Jackson (Nov. 4, 2019)

Freshman of the Week
Brandon Joseph, Northwestern
S, College Station, Texas/College Station

  • Added to his Big Ten-leading total with another two-interception effort in Saturday’s victory against Wisconsin
  • Led the secondary with seven tackles, including four solo stops
  • His five interceptions are two more than anyone else in the Big Ten and he leads the nation in interceptions per game (1.0)
  • Collects his second career Freshman of the Week award
  • Last Northwestern Freshman of the Week: Brandon Joseph (Nov. 2, 2020)
