The Centier Bank Performers of the Week are Chesterton senior track performer Braden Corzan and Penn sophomore baseball player Ryan Lynch.
In Wednesday’s Duneland Athletic Conference track meet held at Merrillville High School, Corzan broke an 11-year record in the 400-meter run in a dazzling time of 47.76 seconds. This time was also better than last year’s winning performance in the 400-meter run at the state finals. He also won the 100-meter dash (11.04), the 200-meter dash (22.01), and rallied the 1,600 relay team to a third-place finish.
In Friday’s 6-5 victory over rival Mishawaka, Lynch smacked a two-out, two-strike, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap off a three-run rally and help the Kingsmen (21-4) finish 12-0 in the Northern Indiana Conference. In Wednesday’s 3-2 eight-inning win over defending Class 3A state champion South Bend Saint Joseph, the left-hander allowed two runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts and no walks over 7 1/3 innings to allow Penn to earn its fifth straight NIC crown. He also tallied two hits and four RBIs in Monday’s 18-3 triumph over Niles (Michigan).
The Centier Bank Performer of the Week is open to any male-female student athlete who participates in any IHSAA sanctioned sport and whose school is in the Centier Bank geographic area.
