Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | April 8-14

 

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from April 8 through 14. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Baseball Player of the Week
Rylee Singleton, Taylor
Singleton hit .667 with two home runs and nine runs batted in during a series split for No. 18 Taylor against RV Indiana Wesleyan. The freshman also scored five times, including four times in the series finale.

 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Deron Swanson, Saint Francis
Swanson went the distance in USF’s 1-0 win over Goshen, fanning 11 and scattering five hits and two walks over seven innings.

 

Softball Player of the Week
Macie Dowd, Saint Francis
Dowd posted multi-hit games in five-of-six outings and ended the week hitting .500 with 11 hits in 22 at bats for Saint Francis. The sophomore also belted two home runs and two doubles, while driving in 11 runs and scoring seven of her own.

 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Nadia Hoffman, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Hoffman fired a complete-game shutout to lead Mount Vernon Nazarene to a 4-0 win over Spring Arbor. In her seven scoreless frames, Hoffman fanned 11 and allowed just three hits and one walk.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Brandon Kleber, Grace
Kleber ran a winning time of 30:52.68 in the 10,000-meters at the Tiffin Track Carnival. The Grace junior automatically qualified for NAIA nationals with the performance.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Jacob Netral, Marian
Netral broke his own school record in the shot put and took first-of-31 athletes at Ball State’s meet. Netral posted a distance of 18.34 meters for the best mark in the NAIA this year.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Alex Ebetino, Saint Francis
Ebetino scored an individual win in the 5,000-meters for Saint Francis at the Ball State Challenge. The senior crossed in 17:29.83 to hit the NAIA A-standard.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Princess Kara, Indiana Wesleyan
Kara highlighted IWU’s showing at the Ball State Challenge, turning in the longest mark in the discuss and the second-best mark in the shot put in the NAIA this season. Kara hit A-standards in each, while winning the discus and taking second in the shot put.

 

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Pablo Gregori, Grace

Gregori was unbeaten in No. 19 Grace’s team win over Goshen. The junior won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and 6-3 at No. 1 doubles to pace the Lancers.

 

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Maria Way, Indiana Wesleyan

Way went 4-0 on the week for No. 18 Indiana Wesleyan, helping the Wildcats to wins over No. 19 Holy Cross and Lourdes. Way’s third-set tiebreaker victory at No. 5 singles lifted IWU to the win over Holy Cross.

 

Men’s Golfer of the Week
Brandon Heffner, Marian

Heffner topped the field and led No. 24 Marian to the team title at the Midway Invitational. Heffner posted back-to-back scores of 71 to take medalist honors.

 

Women’s Golfer of the Week
Shayne Lim, Taylor

Lim was No. 20 Taylor’s top performer at a loaded Dalton State Invitational, as the sophomore shot 72 and 73 to finish third at the event that featured nine NAIA Top-25 programs.
