IWU Baseball Drops Spring Break Opener at Cumberland
LEBANAON, Tenn. – Indiana Wesleyan University baseball began Spring Break with a 4-2 loss at Cumberland (Tenn.) in Lebanon, Tennessee. IWU outhit the host and had a solid outing from SP Jon Young but were unable to overcome a pair of Cumberland home runs.
COMPLETE GAME
Jon Young went the distance on the mound with only 98 pitches in an 8.0 inning performance. He allowed four runs on seven hits. Young did not walk a batter and struck out seven as he falls to 3-1 on the season.
SCORING PLAYS
Noah Bauman put the Wildcats on the scoreboard with a two-out, bases loaded single to center field. The base knock tied the score 1-1 in the top of the 6th inning. Schmidt hit a two-run home run in the home half of the 6th to give Cumberland a 3-1 advantage.
Brady West clubbed a solo home run in the 8th inning to draw Indiana Wesleyan to within one at 3-2, but McDaniels scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 8th to increase the Cumberland lead back to two at 4-2.
NEXT FOR THE WILDCATS
Indiana Wesleyan and Cumberland reconvene on Saturday for a doubleheader in Lebanon, Tennessee. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
