St. Charles, MO – The Ancilla College women’s bowling team captured its second title in as many weekends as it claimed the 10th Annual Hammer Lion’s Classic on Sunday night. Ancilla won a single elimination tournament beating Culver-Stockton, McKendree and Columbia College to take the crown in the 10-team event.
“After day one we were sitting 4th after we left some spares out there, but I as pretty happy where we stood,” said head coach Al Franklin. “On day two we made a move early moving to 3rd to complete day ones scores. The second round began and we went 4-1 in the Baker games to win the title.”
Sophomore Brooklyn Schutz (Elkhart) shot a three-game total of 579 to finish second in the individual round and earned a place on the all-tournament team. Megan Heflin (Dyer) was sixth with a 557, just one pin out of a fifth place finish. Freshman Breanna Gibbons (Frankfort, IN) was 22nd with a 526.
At the Western Bowl in Indianapolis on the on October 21st the Lady Chargers placed first out of 27 teams. Heflin claimed the individual championship and Schutz was 14th.
The women will start their collegiate season in January.
