Latsonas Wins PFL Special Teams Player of the Week

Valparaiso University sophomore Dimitrios Latsonas (Westmont, Ill. / Westmont) added to an already enjoyable weekend for the Crusader kicker on Sunday afternoon, as he was named the Pioneer Football League Special Teams Player of the Week.

This marks the second time this season Latsonas has received the league’s weekly honor. He went 3-for-3 on field-goal tries with a long of 40 yards to help the Crusaders defeat rival Butler on Saturday 36-28 to win the Hoosier Helmet on Saturday in Indianapolis.

Latsonas is now 11-for-13 on field-goal attempts this season, which allows him to enter the Top 5 for made field goals in a single season in program history. He’s currently tied for fourth. In addition, Latsonas broke the program record for made PATs in a season on Saturday, shattering the previous mark of 34, which was shared by Andrew McCawley (2004) and Eric Strasser (1999).

Latsonas and the Crusaders will be back on the field on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT against Dayton. A win on Senior Day at Brown Field would give the Crusaders their first winning season since 2003.
