Nick Bosa Named Bednarik Player of the Week
Records two sacks, two fumble recoveries and a touchdown in 35 defensive snaps
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Nick Bosa, Ohio State’s Returning All-American and Big Ten Conference defensive lineman of the year, has been named the Bednarik player of the week for his dominant performance in Ohio State’s 77-31 victory over Oregon State on Saturday. The Maxwell Football Club presents the weekly award winner for the Bednarik Award, which is given annually to college football’s defensive player of the year.
Bosa was second among Ohio State defenders with four tackles but two were quarterback sacks, for losses totaling 21 yards, and he recovered two fumbles that led to 14 Buckeye points. He scored the first touchdown of his career when he recovered a Pete Werner-forced fumble in the end zone midway through the second quarter.
Bosa, 6-4 and 265 pounds from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has now recorded a quarterback sack in four consecutive games dating to last year’s win over Michigan. He has 6.5 sacks during this stretch for 44 yards in losses. Bosa is tied with Pittsburgh Steeler star Cameron Heyward for 16th place in Ohio State history with 15.5 quarterback sacks.
