Purdue Faces Tennessee in Thursday’s Sweet 16 in Louisville

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Making its third straight Sweet 16 appearance, the Purdue men’s basketball team will face the South Region’s No. 2 seed Tennessee on Thursday.

Tip time is scheduled for 7:27 p.m. ET, at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky. The game will be televised by TBS with Brian Anderson, Chris Webber and Allie LaForce on the call.

The winner of the Purdue vs. Tennessee game will take on the winner of the Virginia vs. UC Irvine / Oregon game in Saturday’s Elite Eight contest.

Purdue, owners of a 25-9 record and the Big Ten champion, advanced to the Sweet 16 with a 61-48 victory over old Dominion on Thursday and an 87-61 win over the defending national champion Villanova in Saturday’s second round. The Boilermakers are one of four teams making their third straight Sweet 16, joining Kentucky, Gonzaga and Michigan in the group.

Tennessee advanced with a pair of close wins over Colgate (77-70) and Iowa in overtime (83-77). The Volunteers are 31-5 overall and ranked No. 6 in the country. Tennessee has five players in double figures, led by two-time SEC Player of the Year Grant Williams (18.8 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 3.1 APG).

The teams are meeting for the second straight year after Tennessee defeated Purdue 78-75 in overtime in the opening round of the 2017 Battle 4 Atlantis.
