Purdue Men’s Basketball Provides Holiday Shopping Spree

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. –  In what has become one of college basketball’s best holiday traditions, the Purdue men’s basketball program teamed with Meijer and Willowstone Family Services to help provide a holiday shopping spree for disadvantaged families from the Lafayette area, making holiday wishes become a reality for 14 families. This year’s spree was the seventh straight year the Purdue men’s basketball program has helped provide this opportunity.

In a unanimous vote, each team member donated a portion of his holiday break per diem for the outing, and combined with donations from Meijer and the Fast Breakers of Lafayette, each family received over $500 in Meijer gift cards with which to make their holiday wishes a reality.

Each member of the Boilermakers was paired with a family for the shopping excursion. The trip was the seventh in as many years for the Purdue men’s basketball team, as the 2011 outing was held at Target, while each of the last six seasons have been held at Meijer. Each year, the monetary gift has increased.

Without the support of Meijer, the Fast Breakers of Lafayette, Willowstone Family Services and the Purdue basketball team, many of the families would not have been able to provide gifts and food for their Holiday festivities.
