Purdue Northwest Women’s Soccer Falls to Northern Michigan, 5-0
HAMMOND, Ind. – Limited to just eight total shots in the game, the Purdue Northwest women’s soccer team fell behind early en route to a 5-0 loss to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Northern Michigan Saturday morning at Pepsi Field in Dowling Park in Hammond, Ind.

Junior Kelley Sharp (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) got the start in goal for the Pride and recorded seven saves over the 90-minute affair.  It was the conference opener for PNW.

The Wildcats notched the game’s first goal in the 15th minute of play when freshman Jenna Halonen scored off a rebound shot attempt from 10 yards out.  In the 22nd minute, senior Allyssa Milam put NMU up 2-0 on a long free kick.

Northern Michigan held the 2-0 advantage the rest of the first half.  In the second half, PNW could not slow down Halonen, who scored the remaining three goals for the Wildcats in the 62nd, 64th and 89th minutes, respectively.

Junior Shelby Ross (Marquette, Mich./Columbus North) tallied four of Purdue Northwest’s eight total shots in the game.

The Pride (0-5-0 overall/0) continue their season on Sunday, September 24, with a GLIAC home game against Michigan Tech.  The game is scheduled for a 9 a.m. CT start at Pepsi Field.
