Purdue Northwest Women’s Soccer Falls to Saginaw Valley State, 6-0, in GLIAC Play
University Center, Mich. – Limited to just two shots on goal in the game, the Purdue Northwest women’s soccer team could not keep pace with Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Saginaw Valley State University (Mich.) and fell 6-0 Sunday afternoon at Braddock Field in University Center, Mich. The Cardinals got off to a fast start scoring their first two goals in the game’s first four minutes, both by Alexis Hilliard.
SVSU went ahead 3-0 on a goal by Valentina Giambanco in the 17th minute of play. Less than five minutes before the break, Saginaw Valley State extended its lead to 4-0 on a goal by Jennifer Muana, which is the advantage the Cardinals took into halftime. Junior Kelley Sharp (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) played the first half in goal for the Pride and recorded three saves.
In the 68th minute, SVSU scored again on a goal by Molly Vanderhoff. The final goal of the game came in the 85th minute off the foot of Kayla Trevino off a rebounded save. Junior Lucie Ashmore (Greystones, Ireland/St. Gerald’s School) played the entire second half in goal for PNW and logged six saves, including one on a penalty kick attempt in the 60th minute.
Senior Tiffani Kotas (Alsip, Ill./Alan B. Shepard) and freshman Megan Miller (Griffith, Ind./Griffith) each had a shot on goal for the Pride in Sunday’s match-up. The Cardinals finished the game with 29 total shots, including 16 shots on goal.
Purdue Northwest (0-10-0 overall/0-6-0 GLIAC) returns to action on Friday, October 13, with a GLIAC road game against Grand Valley State University (Mich.). The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT start at the GVSU Soccer Field in Grand Rapids, Mich.
