WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A quartet of former Purdue standouts head to Las Vegas this week to showcase their talents in the NBA Las Vegas Summer League, beginning Friday at the MGM Resorts.
Second-year pro Caleb Swanigan and rookies Vince Edwards, Isaac Haas and Dakota Mathias will all look to improve their NBA status with three games in pool play before tournament play starts July 11.
Swanigan, a 2017 consensus All-American with the Boilermakers, is in his second season with the Portland Trailblazers. He led the team to the NBA Summer League championship game last year and was named a first-team All-Summer League performer after becoming just the fourth rookie in NBA history to average a Summer League double-double (16.1 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 2.3 APG).
Swanigan and the Blazers will face the Utah Jazz and Isaac Haas on July 7, at 3 p.m. ET on NBA TV, the Atlanta Hawks on July 8, at 5:30 p.m. ET, on ESPN2 and will conclude pool play on July 10 against the San Antonio Spurs at 4 p.m. ET, on NBA TV.
Swanigan was the No. 26 pick of the Trailblazers in the 2017 NBA Draft.
Edwards was the No. 52 pick in last month’s draft by the Houston Rockets and will open Summer League play Friday, July 6, against the Indiana Pacers at 3 p.m. ET, on NBA TV. The Rockets will then face the Golden State Warriors on July 8, at 7:30 p.m. ET, on ESPN2 and the Los Angeles Clippers on July 9, at 11:30 p.m. ET, on NBA TV.
Haas, who signed a free-agent contract on June 22, has already started his NBA Summer League season with the Utah league from July 2 to 5, playing games against the Spurs, Grizzlies and Hawks. He scored his first career points in a July 2 win over Spurs, connecting on a pair of free throws.
Haas’ games in Las Vegas will come on July 7, against Biggie and the Blazers, against the New York Knicks on July 8, at 9 p.m. ET, on NBA TV and on July 10, against the Miami Heat at 4:30 p.m. ET, on ESPNU.
Dakota Mathias signed a free-agent contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers will open Summer League play July 7, at 9:30 p.m. ET, against the Chicago Bulls on ESPN 2. The second game will be against the Washington Wizards on July 8, at 9 p.m. ET, on NBA TV. Mathias’ final game comes on July 9, at 5 p.m. ET, against the Indiana Pacers on ESPN 2.
The NBA Summer League championship game is scheduled for July 16, in Las Vegas.
