Purdue VB Incoming Class Ranked No. 13
Â
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. –Â Purdue’s incoming freshman class is ranked as the No. 13 recruiting class in the nation as released by PrepVolleyball.com. The class is the fourth highest ranked class in the Big Ten behind Penn State, Nebraska and Michigan.Â
Four of Purdue’s six recruits are ranked among the Top 100 high school seniors in the nation by PrepVolleyball.com, two of which are regarded as Top 50 recruits, by Volleyball Magazine. The class directly follows a group of four second-year student-athletes that entered Purdue as the No. 20 recruiting class in 2017, creating a core group of 10 highly-touted underclassmen.Â
“Succeeding in our league demands elite athleticism and the ability to grind day after day,” said head coach Dave Shondell. “This class of Boilermakers are the epitome of that description. We are in the process of building a new identity and this class has the necessary tools to help with that sculpting. I am counting on this group to be ready to play yesterday.”Â
No. 13 Grace Cleveland and No. 74 Jael Johnson will bolster the middle for Purdue with No. 93 Garrett Joiner adding firepower on the outside. The Boilermakers will be known for their play in the backcourt for years to come as No. 54 Marissa Hornung and Emma Terwilliger join an already talented and deep group of defensive specialists. Purdue returns its libero from a season ago, Brooke Peters, as well as sophomore’s Jena Otec, Julianna Reisinger and redshirt sophomore Olivia Van Zelst. Joy Chen will be tasked with competing for the starting setter job with redshirt freshman Hayley Bush who enters the 2018 season looking to make an impact on gamedays in her second season with the program.
