Purdue Women’s Basketball Tops Marist 61-47

Senior Andreona Keys posted 20 points in the win

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Purdue women’s basketball team wrapped up the 2017 Rainbow Wahine Challenge in successful fashion Sunday, defeating Marist College 61-47 at the Stan Sheriff Center. Senior Andreona Keys posted 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals, while sophomore Ae’Rianna Harris tallied 14 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals as the Boilermakers improved to 5-2.

The Boilermakers controlled the game from the get-go, pounding it inside to Harris and Keys, and dishing the occasional ball out to the 3-point arc, where sophomore Dominque Oden drained a quartet of first-half triples to stretch the lead. Marist’s only spark of the opening half came at the buzzer on a half-court heave from Alana Gilmer to cut the halftime margin to 35-23.

Sophomore Lamina Cooper and freshman Karissa McLaughlin provided some offense in the second half, using a couple 3-balls and some steal-and-score offense to stretch the lead to as many as 21. Keys and Harris continued to chip in as well as the five Boilermaker starters accounted for all 61 Purdue points.

Keys’ 20-point effort was the second of her career, just missing the double-double mark, while Harris secured her third double-double of the season. Keys reached the 250 career assist mark, making her just the ninth player in program history with at least 500 rebounds and 250 assists. Oden finished with 12 points, three rebounds and three assists, while Cooper posted 10 points, six rebounds and a pair of steals.

Purdue stays on the road this week, heading to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The trip is a homecoming for several Boilermakers, including Keys and associate head coach Nadine Morgan.
