Saints WBB fall to NO.7 USF (IL)

Notre Dame, IN. The Holy Cross College women’s basketball team hosted #7 ranked University of St. Francis this afternoon at McKenna Arena. USF proved they were a nationally ranked team, as they defeated Holy Cross 64-61. With the loss, women’s basketball stands at 7-6 overall and 2-3 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

After a back and forth battle for most of the first quarter, Holy Cross would trail 20-19.  Midway through the second quarter, the Saints would lead 27-26, but USF would go on a run to end the half and enter halftime up 38-32.

Holy Cross would tie it up early in the second half after a made jumper by Kaelyn Barlow, and after a made three point by Jessica Norris, the Saints would take a 51-48 lead going into the final quarter. St. Francis would make a run late to give them a 64-61 victory.

Tagin Shultheis led the way with 22 points on 4/6 from behind the arc. Eryn Leek contributed with 10 points. The Saints 47% from the field and 47% from three. USF shot 33% from the field, but outrebounded Holy Cross 44-25 to secure 20 more shots than the Saints.

Women’s basketball will be back in action when they travel to Trinity International University Saturday, December 9. Tipoff set for 2:00pm.
