Serna, Cancarevic Goals Lift PNW Men’s Soccer to 2-1 Win
HAMMOND, Ind. – Goals by freshman Enrique Serna (Majadahonda, Spain/Colegio San Jaime) and senior Djordje Cancarevic (Sabec, Serbia/Chippewa) proved to be enough as the Purdue University Northwest men’s soccer team won its second straight Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) game with a 2-1 victory over Northern Michigan University Friday evening at Pepsi Field at Dowling Park in Hammond, Ind.  With the win, the Pride improve to 3-2-1 overall this season and 2-1 in conference play.

Serna got the scoring started in the 22nd minute of action when freshman Justin Barrigan (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) fed a cross to Serna who finished it off from the left side from 15 yards deep.  PNW took the 1-0 lead into the halftime break and extended its lead to 2-0 nearly 12 minutes into the second period when Cancarevic sent a hard shot into the lower right corner of the net from 40 yards out.

The second goal was set up off a free kick by freshman Isaiah Niaves (Lyons Township, Ill./Lyons Township).  The Wildcats answered with a goal in the 78th minute by NMU sophomore Lewis Murray off a bicycle kick right in front of the goal.  Senior Miguel David (San Diego,Calif./Bonita Vista) got the win in goal for the Pride finishing the game with four saves.

Purdue Northwest continues its season on Sunday, Sept. 24, hosting Saginaw Valley State University (Mich.) for another GLIAC match-up.  The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start at Pepsi Field.
