KANSAS CITY, Mo.—When the NAIA Football Coaches’ Top 25 preseason poll was released, Southeastern was among the teams ranked for the first time in program history.
One of four Mid-South Conference teams ranked, the Fire checked in at 16th.
This marks the ninth time in program history the Fire have been a part of the Top 25, and is the second highest the team has ever been ranked.
Southeastern was 7-3 in 2016, winning The Sun Conference title and making the NAIA Football Championship Series for the first time in program history. Coach Keith Barefield welcomes back the services of 19 starters from last year’s team.
Two SEU opponents are ranked among the Top 25, and two more are receiving votes. On September 9th, the Fire will travel to No. 21 Georgetown, and two weeks later, will head to No. 8 Lindsey Wilson.
Additionally, Southeastern will travel to Faulkner, and will host Warner, which are both receiving votes.
The season begins in Barbourville, Ky. on August 26 against Union College.
