FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.—The Fire women’s tennis team took on their second NCAA Division II squad in a row as they faced No. 14 Nova Southeastern University on Thursday. The Sharks were able to sweep Southeastern by winning six matchups in a 9-0 victory.
With only four singles matches and two doubles matches taking place, the Fire went down 3-0 early due to forfeits.
Sharienne Ricardo and Angelique Myrtil took two games from Ana Navas and Isabella Lowrey in doubles competition, while Nicole Backherms and Sydni Brookhouser grabbed a point against Eva Agasse and Alexandra Yeardley. However, Southeastern was unable to notch a match win in either doubles matchup, giving the Sharks a 5-0 advantage.
Myrtil stole a game from Andrea Ivanovic in singles play, but the No. 14-ranked Division II team in the country overpowered the Fire, as the Sharks sealed the triumph with four wins in the singles matches.
Southeastern tennis will be back in action on Saturday against SCAD in Savannah, Ga.
