Sharnecce Currie-Jelks Joins Indiana Women’s Basketball
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana women’s basketball has announced the addition of Sharnecce Currie-Jelks. Jelks is a rising sophomore with three years of eligibility remaining.
A 6-foot-2 forward from UT Martin, Currie-Jelks was named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, All-OVC first team honoree and OVC All-Newcomer squad. She started in 26 of UT Martin’s 28 games, averaging a team-high 15.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.0 blocks while shooting 53.9 percent from the field.
The Jackson, Tenn. native was amongst the top of the OVC in a variety of categories including scoring (third), field goal percentage (third), blocked shots (third), offensive rebounds (third), rebounding (fifth) and defensive rebounds (t-fifth). Currie-Jelks scored in double figures 22 times and had four double-doubles in her freshman season. She was also a two-time OVC Player of the Week and school record nine-time OVC Freshman of the Week.
A graduate of Southside High School, Currie-Jelks averaged 12.8 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per game as a senior and scored 780 points and 515 rebounds in her prep career. During her two seasons at Southside, she led them to a 56-8 overall record and two substate appearances. She earned a pair of all-district and all-region honors along with being named to both the All-West Tennessee Newcomer Team and All-West Tennessee second team.
