COLUMBIA, Ky. — The Southeastern University football team is at the top of its preseason conference poll for the second straight year.
The defending Sun Conference champions were selected as the preseason favorite in the Mid-South Conference Sun Division, voted on by the head coaches in each division.
Southeastern received four of the six first-place votes, with coaches unable to vote for their own team. The Fire went 5-0 in The Sun Conference last season, and were x-x overall. The team also appeared in the postseason for the first time, losing at Reinhardt, which was named the Appalachian Division favorite.
Following Southeastern, Faulkner finished tied for second in the division with Warner. The Eagles garnered the other two first-place votes. Webber International, Ave Maria, and Edward Waters round out the division.
The Fire will face Bluegrass Division favorite Lindsey Wilson on September 23 in Kentucky, as well as the second- (Georgetown) and third-place (Bethel) finishers in that division.
The 2017 season begins in Barbourville, Ky. on August 26 at Union College.
