Taylor Stumbles on Road at No. 6 St. Thomas

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The TU baseball squad suffered a narrow 3-2 loss at the hands of the sixth-ranked St. Thomas Bobcats. Nathan Targgart produced a highlight for the Trojans, setting a program record with his 59th-career double.

Three early runs from the No. 6 Bobcats (1-0) proved to be too much for Taylor (2-1), falling 3-2 on Tuesday. TU gave up only eight hits, two walks and three runs in the contest, posting zeroes in six-straight innings.

Relief pitching came out strong on Tuesday night in Florida. Freshman Cy Stanley got it started out of the bullpen, putting together three scoreless innings in his second collegiate outing. Another freshman, Luke Carlson, followed Stanley, adding another four outs and a strikeout without allowing a run.

TU found its offensive production in the third inning, scoring both runs in the stanza. Two walks and one single loaded the bases for Targgart’s record-breaking double to open the scoring for Taylor. The senior finished with two hits, two RBIs, a double and a walk in the contest.

Jonathan Foster recorded a solid performance on the night, grabbing a hit, sacrifice bunt and run scored.

The Trojans will continue their Florida road trip when they take on Ave Maria on Friday at 2:00 pm.
