Taylor Continues Academic Excellence

 

UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor University Athletics once again ranked at or near the top of the NAIA in a host of academic honors during the 2016-2017 year, ranking among the nation’s finest in Academic All-America, Academic All-District, Scholar-Athlete and Scholar-Team awards.

 

Taylor racked up 76 NAIA Scholar-Athletes, 28 CoSIDA Academic All-District awards, 18 NAIA Scholar-Team nods and nine CoSIDA Academic All-America honors to continue its perch among the top academic institutions in the nation.

 

The Trojans finished third in the NAIA with nine CoSIDA Academic All-America selections during the 2016-2017 year, finishing only three awards shy of leading the NAIA for the fourth time in the past six years.

 

TU’s nine Academic All-Americans was fifth-best in the nation across all levels and its 63 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans since 2010 rank as the second-best total in the NAIA and the eighth-best among all colleges in the nation.

 

In addition to the Academic All-America awards, Taylor hauled in an NAIA-best 28 CoSIDA Academic All-District nods, topping the next closest institution by six honors. Taylor collected 28-of-42 honors received by Crossroads League student-athletes and ranked third in the nation across all levels behind 34 from MIT and 30 from Johns Hopkins.

 

Taylor saw all 18 teams post a collective grade-point average over 3.0 for the fifth-straight year, ranking tops among all NAIA institutions to have each of their teams accomplish that feat during the 2016-2017 year.

 

The Trojans also piled up 76 NAIA Scholar-Athlete awards over the previous year, finishing just two shy of also leading the nation in that award.
