Taylor Ends Regular Season with Split at Huntington

HUNTINGTON, Ind.  – The Taylor softball team split its doubleheader with Huntington in the regular season finale on Monday night, dropping game one, 4-1, before rebounding for a 7-1 win in game two.

TU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game two, before Huntington (22-24, 17-19 CL) cracked the scoreboard with its only run of the game in the fourth inning. The Trojans scored their three runs via an RBI single from Olivia Hostetler in the second inning and an RBI double from Cassie Kuizin and a Forester error in the third frame.

HU scored its lone run in the fourth on a Trojan error, and Taylor then poured on four more runs in the top of the seventh to make the final tally.

Hannah Castor’s double scored Kuizin, Davis Carter then singled to score Courtney Moriarty and Taylor Wilson finished off the scoring with a single that drove home Castor and Carter.

The Trojans outhit Huntington, 12-5, in recording the 7-1 win in game two, after the Purple and Gold was held to just five hits and one run in the 4-1 loss in game one.

Erin Cozad, Moriarty, Kuizin and Castor each tallied three hits on the day to lead the way for Taylor offensively, with Cozad hitting her first home run of the season in the game two loss.

Lauren Kanai (12-5) earned the win in game one, scattering four hits in three scoreless innings of work, while Jessica Doctor notched her first-career save, pitching the final four innings and allowing only one hit and one run.

Taylor (29-13, 23-11 CL) will now turn its attention to the Crossroads League Tournament, which begins on Wednesday, May 2 at Gudakunst Field, as TU will host half of the games played on Wednesday.
