Taylor Nabs Win Streak Record With Thrilling Road Victory

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – TU women’s basketball set a program record with its 15th-straight victory on Saturday. The team edged out Mount Vernon Nazarene by a score of 64-61 to secure a top-two finish in the Crossroads League.
Down by five with just over four minutes remaining in the game, the eighth-ranked Trojans (23-4, 14-2 CL) came alive to maintain their winning streak. Kendall Bradbury got the rally started with back-to-back buckets to bring the Upland squad within one point. Clutch defensive stops allowed Lauren James to retake the lead for Taylor with a pair of free throws. Becca Buchs drained a deep trey to effectively seal the game, giving TU a four-point lead with 23 seconds left in the contest. Bradbury polished off the win with two free throws, as Taylor ended the game on an 11-3 run.
Buchs and Bradbury were key cogs in the Taylor offense, posting a combined 43 points. Adding 12 rebounds to her 24 points, Bradbury recorded her 48th career double-double. Buchs knocked down three triples for the 18th-time this season, finishing with 19 points.
Taylor was dominant at the free throw line on Saturday, converting 13-of-18 attempts from the charity stripe. TU’s 13 foul shots compared favorably to the four makes from Mount Vernon Nazarene (13-15, 6-10 CL).
Aubrey Wright continued her great play on the defensive end against the Cougars. The senior guard grabbed a career-high with four blocks, while nabbing a pair of steals.
No. 8 Taylor will return to action on Wednesday, as the team will take on Goshen (8-19, 1-14 CL) at 7:00 pm.
