Taylor Shuts Down IWU to Face Marian in CL Tournament
Â
INDIANAPOLIS – Stellar pitching from Maddi Evans (3-2) earned Evans her third win of the season and RV Taylor the, 2-0, win over No. 13 Indiana Wesleyan (42-13) on Friday evening in the Crossroads League Tournament.
Evans pitched her third full game of the season. She only gave up four hits and pitched a career-high 10 strikeouts against the Wildcats. The gem was Evans’ second career shutout, with each coming in the freshman’s last four outings. During that span, Evans has allowed just three earned runs in 26 innings in the circle.
On offense, the Trojans totaled four hits. Courtney Moriarty, Erin Cozad, Hannah Castor and Taylor Wilson all finished with one hit each.
In the bottom of the third inning, Wilson gave Evans all the support she would need by hitting the eventual game-winning, home run to put the Trojans on the board, 1-0.
In the Trojans’ last outing at the plate, TU managed to score one more run to add insurance to its lead, after Cozad singled to left field, bringing in Castor.
The Trojans (35-15) remain undefeated in the CL Tournament and will take on the only other undefeated team, Marian (49-0). Taylor and No. 2 Marian will battle for a spot in the CL Tournament Championship game. First pitch is Saturday at 3:00 pm.
