Taylor Splits Against Mount Vernon Nazarene on Senior Day

UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor welcomed Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday for the final home game of the regular season and split against the Cougars. TU won game one, 7-4, and MVNU won game two, 4-0.

The Trojans celebrated five seniors including, Andi Stewart, Abby Smith, Courtney Moriarty, Hannah Castor and Olivia Hostetler. In addition to celebrating Senior Day, Taylor reached 33 wins, making it the fourth most-winningest season in program history.

Hostetler had a big game one for the Trojans. In the second inning, Hostetler had a three-run homer to give the Trojans an early, 3-0, advantage.

After the Cougars found a way to tie the game up, Darby Shaw (5-0) came in relief and picked up the win for the Trojans in the circle.

Hostetler’s home run was not the only dinger for the Trojans in game one. After Hostetler reached first base, Kristin Mihalic hit it over the center-field fence after finding herself down in the count, 0-2, adding a two-run homer to her list of accomplishments.

Both Castor and Hostetler went 2-3 in the batter’s box in game one. Taylor had seven runs on nine hits in the morning game.

Taylor was not able to carry the momentum over in game two, falling 4-0.

Mount Vernon Nazarene posted two runs in the third inning and in the seventh inning to secure the win.

In game two, Moriarty played in her 200th career game in a Trojan uniform.

Maddi Evans (2-2) pitched a full game for TU, her second of the season and tallied four strikeouts. Mihalic and Moriarty both had one hit in game two.

For the second year in a row, RV Taylor has locked up the third-seed in the Crossroads League tournament. The Trojans will play their opening round games on May 1st.
