SAINT PARIS, Ohio – Purdue’s Ben Thornton and No. 15 Shawn Streck came away with victories in a 35-7 loss to second-ranked Ohio State at Graham High School on Sunday. The Buckeyes earned bonus points at six weights to move to 12-0 overall and 7-0 in the Big Ten Conference. The loss is the Boilermakers third to a top-10 team this season as they slip to 6-6 and 0-5 in league duals.

Thornton registered his fifth major decision of the season with a 10-2 outing against OSU’s Brakan Mead at 133 pounds. Thornton tallied a pair of takedowns in the opening frame and followed with a single takedown each of the next two periods.

Each period ended with the Purdue redshirt junior on top as he racked up 4:27 of riding time. The win, his second of the weekend, brought Thornton’s season mark to 21-8.

Streck sent Purdue out of the gym with a win, beating Kevin Snyder 5-2. The two heavyweights were scoreless going into the second period. Streck escaped and shortly thereafter took the Buckeye down. The Merrillville, Indiana, native took Snyder down again in the third to lock up the win. Streck, ranked 15th nationally, improved to 24-10 in his rookie campaign while winning his third straight.

The third period was the difference in a 9-4 decision between ranked wrestlers at 174 pounds. In a match that featured a lot of action from No. 12 Dylan Lydy and Ohio State’s third-ranked Bo Jordan, Jordan held a slim 5-4 margin after two periods. The Buckeye escaped to start the final period and closed out the match with his third takedown.

Purdue returns to Holloway Gymnasium on Feb. 2 to take on Michigan State. Wrestling is set for a 7 p.m. ET start.
