BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—It didn’t take long for Southeastern to have its first NAIA Outdoor Track National Championship qualifiers for 2019.
On the first day of the first outdoor meet of the season, three athletes earned a trip to Gulf Shores in May to compete for national championships.
Darin Garland became the first qualifier in the triple jump in program history, hitting the NAIA “A” Standard, and winning the event with a best mark of 14.62 meters.
Kyle Manuel won the discus with an NAIA “B” Standard distance of 48.17 meters. Manuel also finished third in the shot put at 14.74 meters. Andy Labrada finished third in the discus with a toss of 41.13 meters.
Namiah Simpson won the women’s 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:03.3 to win the event, and land right on the NAIA “A” Standard. On the men’s side, Timothy Lambeth placed third in 56.11, and Davonte Vanterpool was fourth in 56.26.
Maddison Welch placed second in the women’s 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 12:44. Luke Kathman was second on the men’s side in a time of 10:33.
