ORLANDO, Fla.—The Fire track team added a qualifier for outdoor nationals and had two more improve their qualifying times during competition at the Black & Gold Challenge, hosted by UCF.
Davonte Vanterpool had already clinched a spot in the 110 Hurdles, but hit the “A” Standard with a 14.36. He holds the fastest time in the event of the nine qualifiers thus far. He placed fourth overall in the event, and won his heat by nearly three tenths.
Darion Carter was just seven hundredths off the “B” Standard in the 110 Hurdles with a 15.02, and placed 11th.
Courtney Gales became the third qualifier nationally in the Women’s 400 Meters, hitting the “B” Standard with a 57.12. She placed eighth overall in the event.
Namiah Simpson shaved six tenths off her 400 Hurdles time posting a 1:02.43. She placed seventh overall, and holds the top time of the three qualifiers nationally. She also ran the first leg of the 4×400 Meter relay which finished seventh just 56 hundredths off of the “B” Standard.
The team will compete again next weekend at the Bulls Invitational, hosted by the University of South Florida.
