Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | February 4-10

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of February 4 through 10. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Kyle Mangas, Indiana Wesleyan

Mangas posted 29.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in wins over Taylor and Huntington for No. 5 IWU, shooting 56.1 percent from the floor and 53.3 percent from deep. The sophomore highlighted the week with a 38-point, eight-rebound gem in IWU’s 104-98 win over HU.

Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Dejah Cyrus, Marian

Cyrus led No. 7 Marian to wins over Bethel and Grace to keep the Knights in a tie for first place in the Crossroads League standings. Cyrus averaged 24.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game, while shooting 55.0 percent from the floor.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Josh Roth, Taylor

Roth won the 3,000 and 5,000-meter races for Taylor, hitting the A mark in the 3,000 and the B time in the 5,000. Roth set new CL meet records in each, turning in the seventh-best time in the NAIA in the 5,000 and the 11th-best time in the 3,000.


Men’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Jordan Downs, Bethel

Downs scored Crossroads League Championships in the pole vault and long jump, as well as in the 200-meters. Downs hit the NAIA A standard in all three and broke the one-year old meet record in the pole vault and 200-meters to push Bethel to the team championship.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Aspen Dirr, Huntington

Dirr was a force in the distance events for Huntington at the CL Championships, winning the mile, 3,000-meters and distance-medley relay for the Foresters. Dirr hit NAIA A marks and broke the Huntington program and CL meet records in all three races.


Women’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Katrina Tovar, Spring Arbor

Tovar won the triple jump and took second on a tie-breaker in the pole vault at the Crossroads League Championships. Tovar matched or set the previous meet records in each event, going 11.06 meters in the triple and 3.72 meters in the pole vault.

 

Baseball Player of the Week
Adam Roser, Huntington

Roser collected five hits in three Huntington wins, roping two doubles and driving in five runs. The senior posted a .625 batting average and an .875 slugging mark in the three contests.

 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Matt Burleton, Marian

Burleton tossed six no-hit innings in a 12-0 win over Johnson. The senior lefty fanned five and did not issue a walk in his second outing of the early season.
