Indiana Picks Up Road Win At Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb.  – Indiana snapped a two-game skid as it picked up the 82-78 road win over Nebraska on Sunday afternoon in Pinnacle Bank Arena.

KEY MOMENTS

  • Indiana (17-6, 6-5 B1G) would trail by as many as seven in the opening quarter as it would get just four free throws in the final 5:11 of the frame to trail 17-12.
  • But IU turned it on in the second quarter, shooting 73 percent by going 11-for-15 from the floor. Eight points by senior forward Kym Royster would help IU outscore the Cornhuskers (10-12, 5-6 B1G), 24-15, and take a 36-32 lead at halftime.
  • Patberg would light things up after halftime, scoring 14 of her 22 points in the second half. She would help Indiana to a 52.6 field goal percentage in the third as IU hit three of its six triples. Freshman forward Aleksa Gulbe connected from beyond-the-arc with 6:12 remaining as part of a 7-0 run to go up 45-38.
  • They would extend its lead to as many as 12 in the third on two occasions including an assist from sophomore guard Bendu Yeaney to an open Royster with just over three minutes to go.
  • Nebraska would trim their deficit down to just five as part of a 7-2 run that closed out the third with an IU lead, 60-55.
  • Continuing to chip away, the Huskers would tie the game twice in the fourth quarter. With the score knotted at 68-all, Patberg drained her second 3-pointer with 4:04 to play. Back down to a one-point lead, Penn’s drive drew a foul as she made two at the line and came up big with a 3-pointer with 2:09 to play to make it a 76-70 lead.
  • The Cornhuskers would keep the game within reach until the end, coming within one as part of a pair at the line in the bonus, 79-78, with 27 seconds remaining. Patberg drew contact on the ensuing inbound as she hit two more at the line. Nebraska would have a handful of opportunities to tie the game with a 3-pointer but would come up empty.
  • An Indiana foul would send Husker junior guard Hannah Whitish to the line with eight seconds on the clock but her attempts came up empty and Royster would grab a rebound while getting one more at the line to help seal the win.

NOTABLE
