Judson’s Germano Headlines Men’s Soccer Postseason Awards List

CHICAGO — Four-time men’s soccer first team all-conference selection Luis Germano (Curitiba, Brazil) closed out his illustrious career at Judson University by gaining the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s top individual honor when he was named the CCAC Player of the Year on Monday afternoon. The announcement came from the league office when it released the full list of postseason award winners.

Regular- and post-season champion Olivet Nazarene University and Governors State University, the runnerup finisher both in the regular season and at the tournament, tied for the most overall individual honors with six each. Judson was next in line with five, followed by Lincoln College with four and Saint Xavier University with three.

Garnering two individual honors each were Cardinal Stritch University, University of St. Francis and Roosevelt University. Holy Cross was represented, as well, with one honoree.

Germano appeared in 18 matches this season, producing 17 goals and 14 assists for 48 points with three game-winning goals. Those numbers rank him third in the nation in points, fourth in assists and 11th in goals. From a conference perspective, those same numbers placed him second in both assists and total points and tied for third in goals and game-winning goals.

The league’s Freshman of the Year back in 2018, Germano also completed the sweep of being named to the all-conference first team in each of his four seasons. Other repeat selections on the first team were Olivet Nazarene’s Max Jasper (Assen, Netherlands) and Lincoln’s Ivan Vlek (Bahia Blanca, Argentina).

A total of 14 players were recognized on each of two all-conference teams.

Governors State earned the most all-conference spots with six, a league-high five of which were on the second team. Olivet Nazarene followed with five selections and then Lincoln and Judson placing third with four each. Olivet Nazarene and Lincoln shared the honor of having the most first-team selections (three).

Saint Xavier’s Jaeden Aguilera (Wexford, Ireland) claimed one of the other top individual awards when he was recognized as the CCAC Freshman of the Year. The forward totaled 17 goals and one assist in 15 matches this fall resulting in a total of 35 points. He also provided a pair of game-winning goals.

Aguilera’s 17 goals tie him with Germano for 11th-most in the nation and third-most in the conference. He ranked fifth in the league in total points.

The other individual honor went to Olivet Nazarene head coach Kenny Huber, who gained his first CCAC Coach of the Year honor for leading the Tigers to both titles as well as their current 16-3-1 mark.

Trinity International University closed out the list of award winners by being named the CCAC Champions of Character team for the ninth consecutive year.
