Ancilla Wins MCCAA Basketball Championship
Plymouth – They needed overtime, but the #3 Ancilla men’s basketball team won its first Michigan Community College Athletic Association Championship Saturday with a 98-90 win over #16 Henry Ford. The Chargers (28-2) used their defense and some opportunities at the foul line in the second half to outpace the Hawks’ (23-7) torrid three-point shooting in the first half.
Jair Rodgers led Ancilla with 26 points, including hitting 12 of 13 free throws. DK Fox added 24 points and 12 rebounds and hit some key free throws down the stretch to keep the game tight in the second half. Tyler Chisom hit for 19 points and handed out eight assists, while Teyon Scanlan scored 17 points.
The Chargers head to the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 12, District 9 playoffs on Thursday at St. Clair County CC in Port Huron, MI. They will play the winner of the Tuesday game between Lansing and Muskegon.
