Purdue Northwest Men’s Soccer Falls to Ashland, 4-3, in 2OT Thriller
ASHLAND, Ohio – The Purdue University Northwest men’s soccer team dropped a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest to Ashland University (Ohio), 4-3, in double overtime Friday night at Ferguson Field in Ashland, Ohio.  The Pride started the scoring in the 20th minute, thanks to a goal by junior Renato Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) who finished on a header to give the Pride an early 1-0 advantage.

 

Ashland answered back with a goal midway through the first half to even the score at 1-1, which ended up being the score at the end of the first half.  The Eagles came out strong in the second half, scoring a pair of goals to make it 3-1, but the Pride responded nicely.

 

Silva found freshman Isaiah Nieves (Lyons Township, Ill./Lyons Township) in the 70th minute to draw within one at 3-2.   A goal from freshman Enrique Serna (Majadahonda, Spain/Colegio San Jaime) shortly after evened the match at 3-3.

 

The match stayed tied heading into the second overtime period, where Ashland connected on a game-deciding goal late in the period to win the match, 4-3.  Freshman Noel Keeble (Dyer, Ind.) recorded a trio of saves as the PNW starting keeper, while Nieves led the offensive attack with five shots.

 

The Pride return to action on Sunday, October 8, when they face off with Tiffin University (Ohio).  The conference road match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. (CT) start at Paradiso Field in Tiffin, Ohio.
