CHICAGO — Roosevelt University’s Ronan Perennes (Paris, France) and Holy Cross College’s Axel Valenzuela (South Bend, Ind.) have claimed the first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week awards for 2018, it was announced Tuesday morning by the league office.

Perennes, a senior defender, was the key to the Lakers’ 1-0 shutout of Grand View University (Iowa) on Saturday leading to his league defensive honor for the week ending August 26.  He quarterbacked Roosevelt in limiting Grand View to just seven total shots in the game with only two on goal.  The shutout was the first of the season for the Lakers and goalkeeper Jesus Velasco.

It also helped even out Roosevelt’s record at 1-1 on the season.

Valenzuela, a freshman midfielder, gained the weekly distinction on the offensive side of the ball after producing the first multiple-goal game of his career.  He tallied both Saint goals in a 3-2 loss to Goshen College (Ind.) on Friday.

Holy Cross dropped both of its decisions on the week to sit at 0-2 on the season.

Other Offensive Nominees: Anibal Mendoza (Roosevelt), Nikolaos Mihalopoulos (Judson), Joshua Yeaman (St. Francis), Kenneth Eze (Calumet St. Joseph).

Other Defensive Nominees: Roy Gean (Calumet St. Joseph).
