RV Taylor Cruises to 30-Point Win Over Governors State
UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor women’s basketball team scored the first nine points on Saturday night and never looked back, coasting to an 88-58 win over Governors State inside Odle Arena.
After jumping out to the nine-zero lead, the Trojans led the Jaguars 21-to-seven after the first quarter, 54-24 at halftime, and held a game-high 34-point lead, 73-39, at the end of the third quarter, en route to the 30-point victory.
In the first six minutes of the contest, Cassidy Wyse, Kendall Bradbury, Abby Buchs and Sydney Huffman put TU up, 16-to-two, and the Trojans’ lead never dipped below 14 the rest of the night.
Taylor shot 34-of-68 (50 percent) from the floor in the win and notched 27 assists on the 34 made field goals. The 27 assists are the most since TU recorded 27 assists on February 18, 2015, against Spring Arbor.
The Trojans also outrebounded GSU, 54-33, while holding the Jaguars (2-1) to 28.8 percent (19-of-66) shooting on the night.
All 13 Trojans cracked the scoring column, with Bradbury leading the TU barrage with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Buchs added a career-high 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Wyse and Becca Buchs each netted 10 points apiece for the victors, and Huffman tallied six points, a team-high five assists and four rebounds. Kiara Nieto was a perfect 3-for-3 from the field for the first six points of her collegiate career.
