Saints WBB win home finale

Notre Dame, IN. The Holy Cross Saints women’s basketball team closed out the 2017-2018 regular season at home on senior day, where three members of the women’s basketball program were honored prior to tip-off, playing host to the Trojans of Trinity International University. The Saints gave the seniors a 63-38 victory over TIU. With the win, women’s basketball improves to 12-17 overall, and 6-13 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The Saints would open the game up 7-0 after an Eryn Leek layup. The Trojans would fight back, but Holy Cross took a 14-8 lead after the first quarter. Three minutes into the second half, TIU would cut the lead to 13-12, but the Saints would end the first half on a 10-4 run and enter halftime up 23-17. Keysha Streater scored eight points and pulled down five rebounds in the half.

TIU would make a run to start the third quarter, but Holy Cross was able to answer with a run of their own and take a 40-29 lead with two minutes remaining in the quarter. The Saints lead 43-31 enter the final ten minutes. Holy Cross would save their best performance for the fourth quarter, as they would limit the Trojans to scoring only eight points. A Tagin Schultheis  jump shot would give the Saints a 53-33 lead with five minutes remaining, as the Saints cruised to a 63-38 victory.

The Saints were led in scoring by Tagin Schultheis who scored 21 and dished out a team-high six assists. Keysha Streater added 20 points and a team high nine rebounds. Eryn Leek scored eight points and dished out five assists. Holy Cross shot 41% from the field and 22% from behind the arc. The Saints limited the Trojans to shooting only 33% from the field and 33% from behind the arc.

The Saint will be back in action for their final regular season game, when they travel to Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday, Feb. 17. Tipoff is set for 2:00pm.
